Publishing books!!?
I have just finished my 224pg(single spaced) manuscript and my BFF and family has read it and they adore it. There is on problem though if i want the whole word to read it…..I’m only 14 years old. Do you think publishing agents will care that I’m still pretty young?
It’s possible to get published at a young age but before you try to submit it a few words of advice. First find some impartial readers to take a look at. Your friends and family are going to like it because you wrote it. That’s not to say it’s not good but it’s still a good idea to have others take a look at it too.
What I would recommend is have a few people that are willing to give you honest, and sometimes brutal, constructive critism. Make sure that you tell them you’re looking to get it published.
After you’ve done that go to your library and find the Writers’ Guide. In there you’ll find a bunch of different agents and publishers and what they require for submissions. It will also show you how to write a query letter and few other things about formatting your story.
In general it’s 12 pt. Times New Roman font, 1″ margins all around, and double spaced. There are few other things that go in your header, etc.
IF you decide to go ahead and try to get published be prepared for a lot of rejection. Don’t give up but you’re more likely to get a rejection notice than anything else, and that’s true no matter how old the person is.
I’m just giving you the same advice that has been given to me time and time again. Best of wishes and good luck. And please realize I’m not trying to discourage you I just don’t want to see you get hurt because you didn’t have all the facts.
